Thanksgiving Wishes
© By Grady L. Duncan 10/31/03
Leaves have changed their colors,
to yellow, red and brown.
Most have long since fallen,
lying scattered, covering the ground.
The harvest has all been gathered.
Into the barns, it is safely stored.
We're truly blessed with a bounty,
by our good and gracious Lord.
The family is making its plans.
If they can at all find a way,
we'll spend some time together,
on this next Thanksgiving day.
Mother will roast a big turkey,
and prepare the cornbread dressing.
The others will bring the trimmings,
and share the Lord's many blessings.
I can just see it all now,
if only through my mind's eyes;
the oven is filled to the max,
with turkey, dressing and pies.
I can almost smell the aroma,
of hot fresh homemade bread,
and see the places all set,
at a table that's royally spread.
Mom will invite the neighbors,
who have no family of their own.
She just don't relish the thought,
of them spending that day all alone.
With heads bowed in deepest reverence,
We'll thank God as we all pray.
Then we'll enjoy his blessings,
on this special Thanksgiving Day.
To you and your dear family,
we wish you joy, peace and love.
May you be showered with many blessing,
from our Heavenly Father above.
May you all gather once more,
if you can possibly find a way,
to be home with your loving family,
and have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!
