The Day After Christmas
© By Grady L. Duncan
'Twas the day after Christmas, the house was a mess.
My wife was so tired, she couldn't care less.
The stockings were empty, and slung over a chair.
Wrapping paper was all over, but we didn't care.
Then up on the roof, I heard the pounding of feet,
'cus the kids were all hyper, from eating too many sweets.
Then out on the lawn, I saw reindeer poop,
so I went to the garage, and got out my scoop.
The mailman arrived, while I was shoveling the mess.
He handed me the mail. It was from IRS,
With some late Christmas Cards, and credit card bills.
The thought of it all, gave me the chills.
My dog started barking, and jerking his chain.
The next thing I knew, the mailman was yelling, in pain.
At first I thought, he would be a good sport,
until he exclaimed, "I'll see you in court!"
The Judge heard my plea, to which he gave reply,
"You should be out of jail, by the Fourth of July."
