When I was just a little tyke,
Each year seemed a life time.
I wanted to be much older,
At least it was on my mind.
I felt the day would never come,
Why did time pass so slow?
I longed to stay up late,
To listen to the radio,
With a quilt spread on the floor,
And a pillow for my head,
I'd listen to the programs,
Not wanting to go to bed.
"Intersanctum" was my favorite;
"Lone Ranger" and "House of Mystery";
And "Hallmark Hall of Fame",
Or the "Grand Ole Opry."
As time drug by so slowly,
I never realized just why.
Someday I'd know the reason,
And understand it, by and by.
My wishes were finally granted,
And now I have grown old.
I shouldn't have been so anxious,
To hasten toward that goal.
After all those year of waiting,
no longer wanting time to pass,
Understanding was achieved.
I know the truth at last.
I'll share with you its secret,
So be patient, if you please.
Time was in no hurry.
It was busy building memories.
