You Want a Piece of Us
© By Grady L. Duncan
I was just a country boy,
never had cause to fight.
My folks raised me, gentle,
teaching me wrong from right.
My daddy told me, "Son,
I pray you'll never know war,
but we need to protect our freedom.
It is surely worth fighting for.
The day was soon to come,
before I became a man,
when war with all its horror,
would threaten this peaceful land.
This sleeping giant was wakened,
by intruders from the night,
who thought we would succumb,
but we rose, in fury, to fight.
The fight was long and hard.
Many a life was lost,
but we retained our freedom,
and paid terrible cost.
It was not the first time.
You'd think all other would know;
we would rather die in battle,
then let our freedoms go.
Let this be a warning,
to all who dare to try;
Don't test our determination,
unless you're prepared to die.
You see, we've tasted freedoms,
and enjoy our many rights.
The price was paid in full,
with blood shed in many fights.
God Bless America!!!
